WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Urging President Bush to turn all U.S. efforts toward "ending this madness," a leading Republican senator Monday broke with the Bush administration and called for an immediate cease-fire in the Mideast.

"The sickening slaughter on both sides must end and it must end now," Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel said. "President Bush must call for an immediate cease-fire. This madness must stop."

The Bush administration has refused to call for Israel to halt its attacks on southern Lebanon, joining Israel in insisting that Hezbollah fighters must be pushed back from the Israeli-Lebanese border.

half a dozen of one, 60 of the other

some nutcase breaks into a Jewish community center, declares his anger at Israel, and opens fire...

Israeli warplanes bomb a town, killing at least 40 civilians...

sure there's a difference of scale, but is there any moral difference?

if it's a hate crime to kill one Jew, then what kind of crime is it to kill 500 Lebanese?

Fatal Seattle Jewish center shooting a "hate crime"
``SEATTLE (Reuters) - A lone gunman burst into a Jewish organization in downtown Seattle on Friday, killing one woman and wounding five others in what authorities were calling a hate crime.''

Israel air strike kills 40 civilians in Lebanon
``QANA, Lebanon (Reuters) - An Israeli air strike killed at least 40 Lebanese civilians, including 21 children, in the southern village of Qana on Sunday, in the bloodiest single attack during Israel's 19-day-old war on Hizbollah. ... The three-storey building where about 60 displaced civilians were sheltering and several other houses were destroyed in the dawn raid, catching many people asleep, a Reuters witness said. ... The witness counted 40 bodies, including those of 21 children. Rescue workers and witnesses said more bodies were still trapped under the rubble.''

bush on bush

seen in a recent article:
[Laura Bush] said that she did not trust the polls at all, because polls that reveal the president's low approval rating "are not what we we when we travel around the country."

if you don't see it, that's because you travel in a bubble, you chimp-marrying twit.

Asked why the U.S. faced so many problems in the world, Bush said, "The reasons there are problems is because we confronted them."

there you have it, right from the chimp's mouth.

and by coincidence, right after i read that article, i ran across another one that helps explain just WHY Mrs. Chimpy doesn't see evidence of hubby's low approval rating.

MEDFORD, Ore. (July 6) - The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Thursday alleging the U.S. Secret Service and state and local police protecting President Bush during a 2004 campaign appearance discriminated against protesters when they cleared the streets outside where the president was eating dinner.

The class-action lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court contends that police acting on orders from the Secret Service used unreasonable force to move some 200 people peacefully protesting against the Iraq war in Jacksonville while allowing pro-Bush demonstrators to remain standing on sidewalks.

"Our primary motive is to prevent this kind of activity from happening again in the future," said David Fidanque, executive director of the Oregon ACLU.

israel threatens to assassinate palestinian pm

the thuggish state once again shows its true nature.

Report: Israel threatens Haniyeh
